I've been on the hunt for some more spring-like nail varnishes to add to my collection. I had in mind a lemony yellow colour but then this one caught my eye. It's a classic Barry M nail paint in the shade Berry Ice Cream, which I think is such a pretty colour and totally different to other polishes I own! Barry M nail varnishes are some of my favourites because they're really affordable and have such a huge variety of colours - although it does make choosing pretty tricky!

I'm always really impressed with their quality, even though they're a cheaper brand. This one applied so smoothly and was shiny even before applying a top coat. I also find that they don't chip as quickly as some other brands.

Although they looked great plain, I just couldn't resist a floral accent nail!

This month I:
Posted my current skincare routine (find it here) | Found a great bargain in Primark (£5 if you're wondering) | Started doing outfit posts | Embraced spring with some candy-stripe nails | Posted my spring make-up favourites (find it here) | Did a lot of shopping, mostly H&M | Started revising for my finals - of course with some new stationery | Got Coachella-inspired with my nails | Put the boots away and brought out the flatties!

I can't believe we're almost into May, April has flown by so quickly! I spent most of the month at home for Easter - it was lovely to have a break after finally being able to hand my dissertation in. I had lots of family and friend time and did quite a lot of shopping, so I've got a lot of outfit posts planned for the coming weeks! I'm loving being able to embrace pastels and florals now that the weather is finally getting warmer. My nails have also had a spring/summer makeover, I think my favourites are the aztec ones - they're definitely festival inspired.

One ever so slightly less fun thing about summer coming around is exam season. Summer doesn't feel so good when you're cooped up inside with mounds of paper and a hand-cramp, but I thought brightening up my revision with some pretty stationery might make me super-motivated...

The cut-out dress is a perfect choice for the in-between season that we're in at the moment. Although the sun is shining (most of the time), it's still kind of chilly, and for me bare-legs is just not an option right now! Cut-out dresses are a great way to flash a bit of skin without freezing as soon as you step outside.

This particular dress is from H&M quite recently, so I'm pretty sure you can still get it in the shops but I couldn't find it on the website to link to it. It was also super-cheap at about £10 and has a really cute monochrome chevron pattern which I love. It has small squares cut-out around the waist and little shapes cut around the neckline which is actually one of my favourite parts. I just think it looks so pretty!

I can't wait to be able to wear this dress in the summer without tights, but I think it still looks good with them. I teamed it with an old-faithful denim jacket, another item perfect for this in-between-y weather. The fringed bag also adds a festival feel, and along with the cut-out dress I think it looks pretty cool.

Beauty | Spring Make-Up Staples

Now that the Easter weekend has been and gone, it feels like we're definitely into spring! Finally the sun is shining and the days are getting longer and longer. I don't drastically change my make up throughout the year, but I like to alter little things to fit in with the seasons. So I thought I'd share some of my staple make-up products at the moment that are seeing me into spring...

Flawless, simple make-up is always one of the big spring beauty trends, and a bright complexion with simple make-up is my signature look for spring. I like to keep it natural, so a good foundation is a must-have. At the moment I'm loving Rimmel Match Perfection as it provides a nice medium coverage without being heavy or cakey. It's also not ultra-shimmery which makes it perfect for creating a lovely natural base. For adding that spring flushed look I've been loving my Sleek Face Form. It's taken me a while to get to grips with this product, but it's now one of my faves! The shades are really pigmented so you can build up the colour to achieve your desired look. I don't tend to use the highlighter so much, but the blush is such a pretty spring colour and the bronzer is great for contouring as it contains no shimmer.

I love natural eyeshadows for spring so I picked up this Collection Work The Colour Palette in purple recently. I love the mix of matte and shimmer shades and can tell I'm going to be reaching for this most mornings! It contains 8 colours along with a highlighter which means you can create a range of different pretty spring looks. Although I like natural, muted colours on my eyes, it's still important to create definition which I do with this Seventeen High Drama Liquid Eyeliner. A small cat-flick along with pretty, nude eyeshadow colours is such a gorgeous eye make-up look for spring.

I don't wear lipstick on a day-to-day basis but I do tend to use lip-stains. This Seventeen Lip-Crayon is more like a lipstick but it's not as pigmented as it looks, so can be used to create a more natural look. Orange lips are really on-trend this spring, but if a lipstick is too OTT, lip-crayons are a great alternative way to make a statement.

Finally, they don't technically count as make-up, but I do switch up my nail colours between seasons too! There are so many pretty, gorgeous shades around at the moment be it neon brights or muted pastels. Barry M and Seventeen are my favourite brands for nail varnishes as they offer a wide range of colours whilst being super affordable!

What are your spring make-up staples?

Fashion | It's All Yellow...

Love from lisa yellow fashion spring summer 2014

Yellow is THE shade to be wearing this spring/summer. Yes it's a pastel shade but it's still a trend in its own right! Seen on many catwalks at LFW it's a colour that'll see you right through summer and into the autumn in accessories and jackets. Right now though, as the weather brightens up, it's the perfect time to bring this sunshine shade into your wardrobe.

On paper the idea of wearing yellow can be quite daunting, however we're talking pretty lemon and sherbet tones rather than bright mustards. These are some of my favourites picks from the highstreet at the moment - to me they just scream springtime! One of my absolute favourites is the ankle-strap heels (6). They're a bit expensive at £55 but I couldn't resist putting them in. They'd be such a staple and would modernise an old outfit instantly. I also think they'd look so amazing with a tan - definitely a perfect holiday shoe.

If you don't feel brave enough for head-to-toe yellow, accessories or nail varnish are also a great way to do this trend. Nails often get overlooked but they're also amazing for showcasing the latest trends. This Nails Inc polish in Carnaby Street is firmly on my wishlist! I also love the Dorothy Perkins purse. It's difficult to tell how big it is but it'd be a great clutch for a spring wedding.

Midi skirts are a great option for spring when there's still a chill in the air, and this New Look one is gorgeous. Teamed with a crisp white vest and some statement wedges, this would be such a perfect choice for evening drinks in the summer.

Will you be wearing yellow this season?

Jeans - New Look

Shoes - New Look

I recently bought these acid wash jeans (find them here), and have been kind of struggling with what to wear them with. My style is more 'girly' than 'edgy' so they're quite different to what I'd usually buy. Since I'm loving the HUGE pastel trend that has completely taken over this spring, I thought I'd combine the two.

Acid wash jeans are a great alternative to standard jeans because by teaming them with plain, muted colours they become the focus of the outfit. Although I was initially unsure of how to wear them, I've since decided they go with pretty much everything I own! I love how they add a little bit of an edge to what would otherwise be a really girly look. I love these New Look ones because they're one of the 'supersoft' skinnies which means they're more comfortable than normal jeans, yet they're not baggy as some of the soft denim can be.

The pastel top is also a recent New Look purchase and I've worn it so much since buying it because it's really easy to wear. This mint shade is a key colour this spring and I really love it - it's a perfect way of introducing the pastel trend without going for pinks and lilacs. I also like how it works with my last-season Missguided blazer - a great way to layer up whilst keeping the spring-style.

What do you think of the acid wash trend? How would you wear it?

The gorgeous weather yesterday really got me in the mood for summer so I decided to go for an aztec print on my nails with bold, bright colours. I wasn't confident in the steadiness of my hand to pull off this look, so my sister did them for me (imagine me trying to do the other hand!). I love them and think the colours and pattern look really cool with the gold midi rings. This look makes me think of sunshine, holidays and beaches - is it summer yet?!

What do you think of these? What's your staple summer nail look?

Beauty | Current Skincare Routine

Garnier Micellar Solution
Botanics Gentle Cleansing Cream
Good Things Five Minute Facial Face Mask
Johnsons Gentle Exfoliating Wash
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream
The Body Shop Body Butter

I really love buying and using skincare products and recently I've introduced a few new elements into my skincare routine. Taking your make-up off and indulging in a little bit of pampering is a perfect way to relax and gives your skin a well-deserved treat. I've talked about some of these products individually in the past so I've included links to those posts at the end if you want to read a more detailed review.

I've only recently ditched the make-up wipes after reading that they're bad for your skin (who knew?!), and instead turned to the much coveted micellar solutions. After using up a bottle of the L'Oreal offering I've just started on the Garnier version. I haven't been using it for long but I feel like the Garnier solution is gentler on my skin and it's the perfect product for removing the majority of my make up. Following this I like to use the Botanics Gentle Cleanser to remove any remaining make-up or impurities. It's also really gentle and moisturising and is a lovely product to use after taking make-up off.

I like to exfoliate, but as my skin is a bit dry it can sometimes irritate my face. This Johnson's face wash is gentle enough to use everyday and only contains tiny beads, which means it's not harsh as some exfoliating products can be. It's lovely for removing dead skin cells and therefore brightening dull-looking skin. Once a week I like to use my Good Things Face Mask as a treat after exfoliating. Especially for young skin, this mask uses superfruits as brightening ingredients and because of this smells absolutely amazing! It also dries super quickly.

After washing off my face mask with warm water and patting my face dry I like to apply a good moisturiser. My absolute favourite is The Body Shop's Vitamin E Moisturiser. It's silky, smooth, sinks in quickly and feels really luxurious. I've also included the Body Shop Body Butter as it's also an important part of my skincare routine. I love these - they smell amazing, feel gorgeously moisturising and also last a really long time! My current favourite is the Satsuma one.

Trench Coat - New Look
Jumper - Primark
Jeans - Topshop
Boots - Miss Selfridge
Bag - Accessorize
Rings - H&M

Thanks to my wonderful bezzie and her amazing photography skills, I've finally been able to do a style post which is something I've been wanting to do for a while! I've tried the whole self-timer thing, but I think having a real person behind the camera makes the pictures a lot more natural and I don't feel so self-conscious. This outfit is a typical, casual spring look for me, perfect for a girly shopping day.

Trench coats are definitely back in this season and rather than fork out for something new I rediscovered my 4-year old New Look one. That's definitely one of the best things about trench coats - they're classic and if you get a good fit and shape it'll last you for years! I can't believe I've had this hanging in the back of my cupboard for so long, but I can tell it's going to be a favourite this season. I also find trench coats really easy to style; even with jeans and a jumper it makes for a stylish off-duty look.

I really like how the smaller details work in this look - the black and silver accessories are super simple but look great with the camel coat. The midi rings are a recent H&M purchase and it's definitely these little details that really add to this simple outfit. The ankle boots are another recent buy and I've literally lived in them - they're slightly scuffed because of how much I've worn them which is why there isn't a close-up!

What do you think of this look? Do you have any favourite staple items for spring?

March Favourites

Love From Lisa Blog March Favourites

Love From Lisa Blog March Favourites
I only have a few items in my favourites this month because I haven't discovered many new products. I've been busy writing my dissertation so I haven't done a lot of shopping and being at uni means I have to save money for more "important" things like food. However I have come across a few little gems that I wanted to share with you...

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer
When I bought Rimmel's Match Perfection foundation a few months ago this primer came free with it. I'd never tried it before and hadn't really heard a lot about it but thought it seemed like a pretty good free gift. This one claims to have 5 benefits in that it smoothes, resurfaces, brightens, mattifies and protects. I don't always use primers because I'm not sure I can ever tell a difference and I don't like the idea of layering different products if I can't see a benefit. However, this primer is different to ones I've tried before because it seems more like a moisturiser. Firstly it's white rather than beige which makes me think it's better for my skin (probably not true!), and secondly I feel like it really does help my foundation apply better.  Although I probably wouldn't wear it alone because it doesn't have much of an effect by itself, it definitely improves the look and feel of my foundation and it's my favourite primer at the moment!

Seventeen Gel Colour in Long Island
If you've read my previous post you'll have seen this product on my nails and you'll have read me say that I love this colour and have been looking for one like it for a while! It's such a lovely pretty shade whilst being a nice change from bright spring colours. I'm also really impressed at the quality of the Gel Colour range. Sometimes other Seventeen polishes have a tendency to chip quite easily on me, but I've had this one on for a week now and I only have a few minor chips.

L'Oreal 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution
This was one of my new purchases this month as I thought I'd see what all the micellar solution fuss was about, and I wasn't disappointed. I did a separate post about this product which you can find here, so I won't talk about it too much. Although most people seem to prefer the Garnier offering, I've really loved using this one. It's very gentle on my skin, leaves my skin feeling really soft and doesn't make my face feel tight.

Sainsbury's Scented Candle in White Fig & Patchouli
I've thrown a random one into my favourites this month, but I really have been loving it. The pretty packaging attracted me to this candle first because I thought it'd look perfect in my room. But after smelling it I had to have it because it smells so nice. It's definitely not overpowering or too over-fragranced, but it gives off a subtle yet luxurious scent. At first I didn't want to light it but I'm glad I did because I'm really loving using it, especially for relaxing, pamper evenings.

Have you tried any of these? What did you think?
