Nails Of The Week | Seventeen Long Island

I've been looking for a specific grey shade and found one this week in Seventeen's new Gel Colour collection. It's called Long Island and is the perfect light, sophisticated colour I was after. I've tried a few other shades from this range and found them to be a better quality than previous Seventeen nail varnishes I've tried before. Initially it's quite transparent, but after a second coat it turns opaque and has a lovely shine to it.

I've been wearing quite a lot of bright colours and floral patterns on my nails recently and I fancied a bit of a change to something more chic and minimal. I'm pretty sure I haven't had triangles on my nails before, so when I went to visit my sister at uni I got her to paint them on with her nail art pen. I think black works so perfectly on this colour.

I really love this colour and can tell I'm going to be wearing it a lot in the coming months. It's a lovely smooth formula and looks flawless on. It's also such a bargain at only £3.99 - I'll definitely be checking out some of their other shades!

Fashion | Mid-Season Staples

Although high-street stores are bringing out bikinis and cute summer dresses, the weather is still a bit chilly to venture out without a few layers just yet. Dressing for mid-season can sometimes be pretty tricky because we all want to inject some sunshine into our wardrobes without getting caught out by the weather! I've put together a selection of staple pieces that are perfect for the transition between winter and summer...

Links: Bag | Dress | Scarf | Skirt | Jacket

The Bright Bag:
A bright bag is the perfect mid-season staple and they're really on-trend for SS14. I love pretty much all the bags in Accessorize at the moment, but this green one is ideal for spring!

The Monochrome Summer Dress:
Although this is a summer dress, because it's monochrome you can warm it up with some tights and a chunky jumper. This daisy print is definitely going to be big this summer so it'll definitely see you into the warmer months too.

The Printed Scarf:
Rather than a knitted scarf,  these pretty, floral scarves are lovely for spring whilst adding a bit of warmth to an outfit. You can also pick them up so cheaply so they're pretty purse-friendly too.

The Midi Skirt:
This is one of the key items for spring. Midi skirts are really easy to wear and there's one to suit every shape - bodycon, A-line etc. They can also be worn in lots of ways; with cardigans, jumpers and t-shirts, so they're so versatile.

The Pastel Jacket:
It's still a jacket and it'll keep you warm but in the key shades for spring/summer. These are great for brightening up an outfit and because of the classic style they'll definitely last for a few seasons. This one is from Dorothy Perkins and I think it's such a pretty colour for spring.

What are your wardrobe staples for in-between seasons?

Nails Of The Week | Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish

I managed to win #ManicureMonday on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, and the prize is a bag of goodies courtesy of Nails Inc. One of the products I received was this Gel Effect Polish in the colour Kensington Passage. As soon as I saw the colour I thought how perfect it was for spring and summer! I hadn't tried the Nails Inc Gel polishes before, so I was eager to give it a go.

The idea behind the gel effect nail varnishes is that they mimic the effects of gel nails without the need for UV lights. They supposedly last longer without chipping and are thicker than standard polishes which helps protect the nail underneath.

I've only put on one coat of this nail varnish and, as the pictures show, that's all you really need. Because it's a gel polish it's a bit thicker than normal which makes it more opaque. It also glides on really smoothly and is a pleasure to apply! It dries pretty quickly too which is an added bonus.

It dries very smooth with no bubbling or rippling considering it's a thicker polish. The bottle says it has a 'plumping effect' which means it will feel thicker than a normal nail varnish. Because of this it seems like it'll be less likely to chip. Overall I'm so happy with this product and really want to get my hands on some other colours!

Have you tried any gel effect nail varnishes?

The Sunday Post #4 | Sultana Flapjacks

Love From Lisa Sultana Flapjacks

Baking is something I love doing at the weekends. My best friend was staying with me so we decided to make Mary Berry's sultana flapjacks. They're so simple to make and don't require a huge amount of ingredients - I had most of them in the cupboard already. Here's the recipe if you fancy having a baking Sunday too...

225g butter
225g demerara sugar
75g golden syrup
350g porridge oats
100g sultanas

Love From Lisa Sultana Flapjacks

1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees. Grease a traybake tin and line with baking parchment.

2. Put the butter, sugar, and golden syrup into a pan and melt over a medium-low heat. When the mixture is smooth and completely melted, take off the heat and stir in the oats and sultanas.

3. Spoon the mixture from the pan into the prepared tin. Press down with the back of a spoon, making sure the mixture is level.

4. Bake for about 35 minutes until it's a pale, golden brown. (You might want to put a baking tray beneath it because ours bubbled over a bit in the oven!).

5. Leave them to cool and harden in the tin for about 10 minutes. Before removing them, cut into squares. Leave them to cool completely, then take them out of the tin. (We didn't cut them before removing them because we didn't read it properly, but I don't think it made a lot of difference!).

This was such an easy and fun recipe to make - who doesn't love golden syrup?! Also, you can customise these flapjacks to suit your taste, you could add chocolate chips, cranberries or drizzle chocolate on top when they're cooked etc.

Do you like baking at the weekend? Will you be giving these a go?

Beauty | 3 in 1 L'Oreal Micellar Solution

Love From Lisa Loreal Micellar Solution

Love From Lisa Loreal Micellar Solution
I've recently ditched the facewipes and started taking better care of my skin. Micellar solutions are all the rage in the beauty world right now so I thought I'd give one a go. Micellar solutions look and feel as gentle as water whilst dissolving make-up and unclogging pores.

I chose the L'Oreal solution which appealed to me because it's a 3 in 1 and I'm lazy! It simultaneously dissolves make-up, unclogs pores and removes impurities, and tones and soothes skin. I admit I was also attracted to the packaging which I think makes the product look more expensive than it actually was (£4.99).

Overall I'm pretty happy with this product, most importantly it removes all my make-up gently and doesn't leave my eyes stinging or my skin tight. I tend to use about 3 cotton pads to remove the majority of my make-up. The product does come out a bit fast so be sure to only tip the bottle slightly or you'll drown your cotton pad!

I would buy this product again, although when this one's finished I do want to try the Garnier Micellar Solution as I've seen that most people seem to prefer that one of the two. If you're looking for a budget micellar solution I'd definitely recommend this one - it's gentle, lovely to use and does what it says on the bottle!

Have you tried this product before? Do you prefer it to the Garnier one?

Nails Of The Week | Monochrome Birds

Monochrome Bird Nails

Monochrome Bird Nails
Monochrome Bird Nails
I don't think I've ever painted my nails white before, but I love how refreshing it looks. It's so hard to make white neat though! Mine are a little bit messy around the edges, but I'll know to be extra careful next time. This week I fancied something a bit simpler than the floral designs I've been doing recently. I found some black nail-art stickers in my cupboard and chose the bird design which I think looks great against the white background. Rather than going for the traditional ring-finger accent, I put it on my forefinger and I think it makes a nice change!

What do you think?

The Sunday Post #3

The Easter holidays are here! I'm back home from university, my dissertation is complete and the sun is shining. What better way to spend a sunny Sunday than going on a bike ride with my mum and treating ourselves to a delicious brunch after all that hard work?

Happy Sunday :)

Review | The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream Review

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream Review

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream Review

I'm really into looking after my skin at the moment and this little pot has firmly found its way into my everyday skincare routine. This moisturiser by The Body Shop is from their classic Vitamin E range and (according to their website) is their best-selling daily moisturiser. As this product featured in my February Favourites (which you can find here), I can definitely see why.

The Vitamin E range is formulated to protect skin from environmental damage including pollution and UVA/UVB rays. In doing so, it helps to prevent the signs of premature ageing which means it's a great range for younger skin. This moisturiser is for all skin types and hydrates and softens the skin.

One of the main reasons behind my love for this product is the lightness of the formula. It's not at all heavy and is absorbed into the skin really quickly. It's non-sticky and feels so silky and smooth that it's such a pleasure to apply. It also smells amazing - it's clean and fresh without being sweet or fragranced.

I've been using this moisturiser every morning, and I love how quickly it sinks in because it means I don't have to wait a long time before putting my make-up on. It leaves my skin feeling really smooth and really soft and it's so good at hydrating the skin. My skin can be quite dry so I tend to think that light formulas won't work as well, but this one really does. It absorbs quickly and locks in all the moisture. I've been using this everyday for almost two months now and there's still a fair amount left even though it's a small pot. A little definitely goes a long way with this one.

I also think the packaging is really effective - it looks so pretty on my dressing table! I'll be sure to repurchase this product as it's become my favourite everyday moisturiser. I'm definitely going to be looking into trying some of the other products from The Body Shop Vitamin E range such as the night cream, cleanser and facial oil.

Have you tried anything from this range? What did you think?

Spring Trend SS14 | Kimonos

Kimono Trend SS14
Links L-R: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

One of the key items for this season is the kimono cover-up. Whether it's fringed, full-length or cropped, it definitely seems to be a must-have this spring/summer. These are some of my favourites on the high-street right now. Initially I wasn't too excited by this trend - I'd only really thought of kimonos as beach cover-ups. However there are so many different ways to wear to suit anyone! Below are some ways I think you could style this trend to work for everyday...

Boho Fashion Kimono Trend
Top | Shorts | Headband | Bracelets | Sandals

I love this look because it's so summery - it's perfect for festivals, BBQs and afternoon drinks. It makes me really excited for the weather to be warmer because I think summer clothes are way more exciting than winter ones. This kimono is my favourite of all of them, so I've paired it with a plainer outfit and a floral garland for a boho vibe.

Edgy Fashion Kimono Trend
Dress | Necklace | Sunglasses | Boots
I think this look is a good one for spring because it's not too floral or bright. I love the acid denim with the black kimono and it's a good way of working the kimono trend without being too hippie! I also really like the round glasses and Missguided necklace.

Girly Fashion Kimono Trend
Dress | Hat | Bag | Sandals

Finally a more grown up, girly look. These pastel shades are so perfect for spring/summer '14 and look great with the tasselled kimono. This is a great way to smarten up the kimono look, you could also pair it with some heels or wedges for a dinner out.

What do you think of these looks? Do you like the kimono trend?

Nails of the Week | Pink & Blue Daisies

Pink & Blue Daisy Nails

Inspired by the amazing weather we had yesterday I've gone for daisies on my nails. Rather than going all out on every finger, I stuck to an accent nail covered with flowers and a single one on the corner of all the others. I made them extra shiny using a glossy topcoat.

I used two of Seventeen's new Gel Colours - Mint Bon Bon and Azure Amore which featured in this post here. I also used one of their Quicker Slicker Colours (which I've had for a while), in Pink Lemonade. I love how summery they look - they make me happy just looking at them!

Recent Purchases | Boots Seventeen

Boots Seventeen Make Up

Boots Seventeen Make Up

Boots Seventeen Make Up
Boots Seventeen Make Up
Boots Seventeen is definitely one of my go-to high street make-up brands. Looking at all the make-up I own, Seventeen makes up a pretty significant chunk of it. The products in the photo are those that I've bought in the last few months although I do have other Seventeen items. I think it's such a great brand for those on a budget because the products are both affordable and are of a good quality.

My favourites at the moment are the Miracle Matte Pressed Powder and the Gel Colours. The powder is a recent purchase but it's quickly become my everyday powder because it gives a silky matte finish without looking too dry. I'm also loving the colour range of their nail varnishes, I picked these two up because they're so perfect for spring! I'm sometimes a bit disappointed by the quality of Seventeen nail varnishes, they tend to chip very quickly on me. I haven't been able to test the staying power of these ones yet because every time I've used them so far I've had Sally Hansen Nail Shields on at the same time. I did a nail post which you can find here where I'm wearing the green shade: Mint Bon Bon.

One product that I'm not sure about is the Flawless Poreless Primer. Personally, it's one of those products that I can't really tell a difference between when I'm wearing it and when I'm not. I've only been using it for about a month (and not everyday) and already the bottom of the pan is peeking through. It does make my skin smoother before I put foundation on but as for flawless or poreless? I'm not convinced.

The lipstick and mascara were some of my sale purchases just after Christmas. The lipstick is part of the Lasting Fix range, but I'm not sure how much I'll be wearing it now as it's quite an autumnal colour. However I've really been loving the Photo Flawless Mascara as an everyday favourite. If you follow my blog you might also be aware of how much I like the Brow Kit that I got for Christmas. I think I've used it everyday since then and I did a more detailed review of it here.

What brands have you been purchasing from lately? What do you think of Seventeen?

3 Spring Jewellery Trends

It might still be a bit chilly to delve into your spring/summer wardrobe just yet, but there are some key new jewellery trends which are perfect for injecting a bit of spring into your look...

Statement Floral Necklaces Spring
Links L-R: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Statement floral necklaces are huge at the moment and you can get them pretty much anywhere on the high-street. They look great with chunky jumpers and jeans or to jazz up a plain day dress. I love all of these, although my favourites are numbers 1 and 3 - the pastel colours are perfect for this season.

Layered Necklaces and Bracelet Stacks
Links L-R: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Whether it's necklaces or bracelets layering/stacking is a key look for SS14. I like this trend because you can be as subtle or OTT as you like with it. You don't even need to invest in anything new - just layer up different items you already have, clash colours, sizes and styles!

Chunky Chain Necklaces
Links L-R: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Short, chunky chains are my final key jewellery trend of this season. Go all out with a huge gold number, of if that's a bit edgy for you go for a subtle black or pastel chain like numbers 3 and 6. I'd wear with a plain vest and chunky cardigan to make sure the necklace is the focus.

What's your favourite jewellery trend this season?
